Abbeygate Insurance is a full on English car insurance company located in Estepona, Malaga and Sotovilla, Spain serving the UK expats and local Spanish community. We are a long established business that has been providing car insurance in Spain for over 30 years. The services that we offer are home, health, pet, marine, business, travel, bike, van, car, general liability, renter's, life and funeral insurance.

Experiencia negativa: Se llevaron mi coche el pasado 14 de julio por un fallo de bateria (hace 8 dias) y sigue en sus instalaciones sin haberle asignado todavía un taller. Actualizo. Ya 10 días en un descampado esperando taller por un problema de bateria. Mi compañera, que tiene el mismo seguro, dice que el suyo lleva 15 días. Inaceptable, vergonzoso. Seguiré informando.
Experiencia negativa: Since a car accident on the 3rd of June, I’ve been disappointed with the service I’ve received from Abbeygate. I’ve found that not all of my questions are being answered, and there doesn’t seem to be much effort to resolve things adequately. I’ve now been told that due to staff being on annual leave, I’ll need to wait for replies — even though I’ve already raised these issues more than once. It’s frustrating and quite a let-down, especially as I had no complaints prior to this.
Experiencia negativa: Spent an afternoon shopping around for insurance quotes and called Abbeygate on the recommendation of a friend. Wasn't able to get a quote from them and then later realized that they put a lock on my profile. (This can happen when a broker creates a quote profile in an insurer's system, it can "lock" your profile with other 1st party providers for 30 - 90 days). In the end I went with The Insurance Centre - they were the easiest to connect with (phone and whatsapp - perfect English), the most affordable, and provided excellent post purchase care. 10/10 recommend .

In fairness, the only reason I left them was one condition re. An Alarm System which, in the early 2000s, I could not meet. Since then I have cycled through 4 Companies none of which have given me Peace of Mind.

Experiencia negativa: Tengan mucho cuidado y no contraten nada con SEGUROS ABBEYGATE ESPAÑA, porque se arrepetirán. Me dieron un presupuesto y cuando fui a contratarlo me subieron la póliza en menos de 24 horas, es decir, "donde dije digo ayer ahora digo Diego" y encima con una cantidad de mentiras para intentar justificarse y engañarme, y que después investigué por mi cuenta contactando a quien ellos decían que eran responsables de dicha subida, y comprobé que todo era falso, con una actitud mezquina, ruin e impropia de un impresentable, mal educado y prepotente de un tal Francisco Javier Rodríguez, que dijo ser el Director Técnico de la Empresa, y negandose a facilitarme el email del Director Jefe o similar para ponerle en su conocimiento los hechos aqui denunciados. Triste, lamentable en incomprensible que este tipo de "personajes" tengan un cargo de responsabilidad en dicha Empresa, que con actitudes como esa lo único que consiguen es desacreditar a la Aseguradora y que los actuales y futuros clientes pierdan su confianza en ella.

Experiencia negativa: Rang regarding travel insurance, not health cover. As an expat pensioner in Spain the agent we spoke with was totally unaware that British pensioners have SS1's and EHIC cards. This made our request difficult for the agent to comprend. Brexit was not that long ago and he would have had a EHIC himself as a european citizen. We gave up in the end.

Fully two years later, and I can only conclude that travel insurance is a FRAUD and a process conceived to cheat innocent public out of their hard earned savings. This is not the fault of the nice people who are doing their job selling you insurance, but of the AUTOMATED PROCESSES related to the claims process which are designed to be as onerous and inconveniente as possible and subject to you obtaining documentation form the airlines who ruin your travel for whatever the circumstances. - (ever tried speaking to a human being at Turkish Airlines? 1ST PRIZE FOR BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE) Here is my original message: The personal attention and follow up with the claims process, by staff at Abbeygate Seguros España, has been marvellous. I got caught in a recent storm causing missed flights, delays and lost luggage. They are helping me to resolve the matter of claims which are difficult to navigate for the non IT Savvy! - Whilst it was fresh I had some support from the sales team, but as soon as it became too difficult, the interest was lost. The sad conclusion is that any compensation is just too hard to obtain - requiring HUNDREDS of hours of telephone time, (and cost) all designed to make you lose confidence and faith , apart from being treated like a moron! DONT BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE - IT IS A FRAUD. If you want me to elaborate I will gladly do so... just reach out to contact me.

Experiencia fantástica: Oddly enough, there were a lot of one star reviews here but honestly my experience with these guys was totally different. I spoke with a number of Spanish insurance companies and the quotes they gave me for a fully comprehensive policy was mad! It’s the second time I’ve used Abbeygate and so far I couldn’t be happier with the customer service and price they were able to offer. I spoke with Cian Hurley to get me an initial quote and the guy was super efficient, got me the numbers within 5 min, once I went ahead with the policy another representative Alejandro Jimenez followed up to confirm that they’ve received all my paperwork and that everything was in order. So frictionless, especially after spending 45 minutes on the phone with Mapfre, which gave me a completely outrageous quote. Overall I am quite impressed with the service and super happy with the price I paid. In contracts to the last few recent reviews on Google about how bad the service is at Abbeygate I would have to disagree. Cian & Alejandro thanks for all the help. I’ll reach out again in 12 months to renew my policy! 10/10

I tried to get included in the policy my dad has just signed with them, I emailed Paul Williams and never received a reply myself. He would only ever address my dad, who was not enquiring about anything. No respect nor bother to contact me. Mentioned to my dad he would ring me and never did, I am still to hear from him. I never received the alternative options I requested to see, in order to come to an alternative solution. Embarrassed to have this low quality company working in Spain, bringing a bad reputation to both Spain and British business owners here in the coast. Blessed be the day our contract ends with you so we can leave.

Never stipulated in the initial call, so I was under the impression we had a 12 month contract. Now we are uninsured for a month. They are sneaky and underhanded...stay away

Experiencia negativa: One star because I can not give less!! Two accidents so far whilst with them, both times not our fault and both times we had problems. First time around they were meant to provide a courtesy car (for a maximum of 1 week) but they give you a number where nobody ever picks up and, when they do, apparently they have nothing to do with courtesy cars. So we were left with no car for over a week (the time it took to fix our car). Endless calls and still no resolution. Second time around, we have been taking the car to the mechanic for assessment twice already, the first time the garage did not have the appointment (after we had reconfirmed with them at least twice) and the second time we have spent all the day at the mechanic and finally no assessor showed up (again checked with them several times before to take the car and they assured us all was confirmed). Probably one of the worst insurances you will ever deal with.

Waited in the dealership for the next two hours, couldn´t contact the sales agent, had to go home. Called back the next morning and was told that the agent is not in the office and I will have to wait until he gets in. It´s ironic that British people complain about Spanish professionalism when this is a British run company with such poor working standards in Spain.

Experiencia negativa: Following a small claim this company has done nothing but pass the info to the insurer. They have failed to follow up when promised and when the insurer tried to use a incorrect contract clause, they just rolled over. When the error was pointed out it never felt like the claim manager had an interest or even understood. I can not recommend this company nor the insurer Helvetica. Look elsewhere for service.

Experiencia negativa: Left me and my 70 yr old father in 40 degree heat in middle of motorway broken down. 5 hours later a tow truck arrived and advised us because of this company we were messed about for being English in Spain. - will be looking for full refund and compensation from this company as my father has now been hospitalized due to heatstroke and is now on fluids. Very bad company no regard for health and safety on roadside of busy motorway.

I was assured I would be called back.....the call never came. I called back the following day to be told the advisor had one more company to contact and that he would call me back as soon as possible.......4 days later still not called me back. What a joke what awful service.

Experiencia negativa: Terrible Service. Insurance is meant to secure peace of mind in times of emergency. My experience with AbbeyGates Breakdown services is that it totally stole my peace of mind, in an already extremely stressful situation. On Friday 7th of June at 22.00 my car broke down in the mountains of Northern Spain while on route from Malaga to Ireland. The car needed to remain in the garage until the new part was delivered. My policy is fully comprehensive. However, car hire is not include for a breakdown with AbbeyGate, so for three days I'd no car. Corrs who are the breakdown service of AbbeyGate Insurance in Spain, informed me by telephone on the Friday night that they would pay for a taxi for me and my two dogs to make it to our accommodation, which was an 1.5 hour drive away. The car needed to remain in the garage until the new part was delivered. Coors clearly informed me on Friday that when the car was ready they would pay for a taxi to collect me from my accommodation to return me to collect my vehicle. On Monday 10th of June, half an hour before my taxi was due to leave to collect me, and after I had checked out of my accommodation, Corrs rang me to say that their colleague on Friday evening had misinformed me and that Corrs would not cover the cost of the return Taxi. I had very little money, and was left with my two dogs and all my belongings to source my own way to make the 1.5hr journey to collect my car. I rang AbbeyGate and spoke with their claims officer in the hope to resolve the situation amicably. I was informed that they would check with Corrs the recoding for Friday night and refund me the taxi fair when the conversation stating Corrs would cover the cost of both taxis was confirmed. I received a forward email from Corrs to state they were not going to pay for taxi, with no further explanation given. For the sake of €80 Euro taxi fare, I am appalled at AbbeyGates lack of customer care, by leaving a woman with her two dogs stranded in forgine place. I have taking the matter to to Finical Conduct Authority in the UK. As it does not state in Abbeygates breakdown policy that return taxi is not included. This is the second time I had an issue with AbbeyGate acting outside of their policy agreements.
Experiencia negativa: Awful Just Awful. Abbeygate sold me a policy that simply didn't cover me for anything!! Not even a car or taxi to get me and my family back home safely. Now im hundreds out of pocket. I decided to cancel the policy and now I'm being told that as there's only 4 months left on the policy I will not get a penny back. Do your homework and find a reputable Spanish Insurer, most speak english anyway.
Dear Mr. Kelly, may I assume you refer to the time you asked the recovery truck to collect you when you knew the policy had expired. You then contracted a new policy. Everyone reading this will agree that expired policies will not cover you and existing incidents will not be covered by any new policy. Our refund terms are fair and significantly better than the normal ones used by Spanish insurers. These where also discussed with you in June 2018. Having seen the notes of the bad language you used in a call to my staff I am not sad to see you leave.

Experiencia negativa: Disgraceful service, Rude staff, complete mess, no one knows what's going on. The broker who gave me my quote got fired some weeks later from Abbeygate. When I call the Portuguese office I get forwarded to the Spanish office just to add to the confusion. The goal posts change all the time. I had numerous conversations with my contact there , Nathalie Pires, who took over from the fired guy. I checked several times that she had what was needed to insure me. A couple of days later I requested a quote and something changed and no quote could be given. The senior management, especially in the Spanish office act with zero professionalism. South African I think by the sound of his arrogant bull headed attitude. YOU WANT TO STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE GUYS!
We take very seriously our need to protect our existing clients, follow guidelines and know our clients. If we feel uncomfortable or that details are inconsistent then we prefer not to offer a quotation. No one has been “fired” only praised for good diligence. Whilst we are sorry you feel aggrieved we remain happy with our decision and professionalism.

Abbeygate Insurance Brokers will pass on any available refund provided by an insurer, this is stated in our T&C’s as you have mentioned. However, on this occasion your insurance company for your property did not offer a refund following cancellation in line with the policy and all other Spanish Insurers. This means there is no refund to be passed on by Abbeygate to the customer. For fair understanding it should also be noted that you had this policy in force with the same insurance company for over 5 years and always been happy with the terms of the policy and demonstrated this by paying the renewal premium every year. We are sorry that you feel disappointed that there is no refund being provided by your Insurance Company but feel that Abbeygate have done everything possible throughout the years you have held the insurance policy. Abbeygate have requested for your insurer to review your file and if they may reconsider offering a refund after considering the number of years you have insured with them.
